Pattern: Monkey Socks by Cookie A
Yarn: Malabrigo Sock in stonechat
Needles: US 1, 2.25 mm
Cast on: July 18, 2013
Cast off: July 20, 2013

And I had 35 g of the Malabrigo Sock left over!

My fingers are itching to spin, and the minute I'm back from my vacation, I'll be snatching up at least 8 oz of polwarth roving from BMFA! I hope to make some cabled yarn (2-ply cabled back onto itself, yielding a 4-ply) to be knitted up into socks.

Mittens?

Started working on these double-knit mittens and didn't get very far before I had a ridiculous realization. My vision of these mittens was to have a solid green exterior and that fuzzy purple interior, but I started working up that double-knitting, and realized that I was simply knitting two layers at once... of course!

If I'm not doing any kind of colorwork, doubleknitting is essentially useless. I'm way faster knitting two layers separately, so these are getting frogged! I think colorwork would stabilize the two layers together, so I wouldn't have them coming apart on me, which of course makes perfect sense. To continue this project, I could just make four individual mittens and seam the interiors, but after making ridiculously boring black socks, I need something more exciting!Maybe I'll revisit these again later and make doubleknit mittens with the Malabrigo sock in lettuce as the exterior with little blips of brown like kiwi seeds.

Returned

I'm back!

So just a quick update as to why I've been gone for almost three years, holy cow. It's crazy to think that time has flown by so quickly, but amazingly it has. I have been buried up to my eyeballs in school and work, but I am hoping to update this blog once weekly, even when the school year begins; hopefully I can knit at least that often!

In the meantime, I have a little project that is going on the needles by tomorrow: double-knitted mittens! This will be my first improvised pattern of this magnitude, but I'm fairly confident in mitten construction so I think I'll be fine. Purchased at my LYS just a few days ago over this summer break:

I'm thinking the Malabrigo sock in Lettuce for the outer, and that beautiful (unnamed) purple, marked #5633, Cascade Heritage Silk for the interior.
